Dereck Monette spent over a decade building a distinguished career in the automotive industry, delivering training programs and managing large-scale operations for General Motors and Ford Motor Company of Canada. Working across North America, Dereck developed deep expertise in logistics, team leadership, and operational management — skills that would later prove foundational in building something entirely his own.

After years of corporate life, Dereck made the decision to step away from the automotive world in pursuit of work with a deeper sense of purpose. A trip to South Africa proved to be the turning point. Struck by the country's extraordinary landscapes, remarkable wildlife, and the quiet but critical conservation work being carried out across its national parks and reserves, Dereck returned to Canada with a clear vision: to create a travel service that connected people with that world in a meaningful and responsible way.

In 2020, Dereck founded Canada to Cape — a conservation-focused tour operator dedicated to crafting intentional travel experiences across southern Africa. Drawing on his background in project management and logistics, Dereck personally oversees every aspect of the client experience, from initial consultation through to the final itinerary, ensuring each journey is thoughtfully designed around the parks, wildlife reserves, and conservation initiatives that define the region.
